🍁 Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend!
This week, we’re starting a new theme that’s near and dear to my heart: Slashers 🔪.
Some housekeeping: I’m going to be trying out a new format. Instead of every weekday, you’ll get movie recommendations on Monday and Wednesday, and a double feature on Friday.
Let me know if you like (or hate) this new format by replying to this email!
Okay, here’s day 1️⃣.
Today’s movie: Black Christmas
STREAMING ON PRIME VIDEO
What it’s about: During Christmas break, a group of sorority girls is harassed by a menacing caller (and killer) only known as Billy. Little do they know, he’s also watching their every move.
Why it’s great: It’s not a spoiler to say that the mystery caller is inside the house the whole time because it’s established in the opening shot — and that’s what makes Black Christmas so good. The amount of tension that director Bob Clark is able to achieve without resorting to gratuitous jump scares or sensationalized gore is impressive. Even more, he tackles progressive feminist themes, which makes the movie as engaging as it is terrifying. *ring ring*

In movie news: Zoe Kravitz joins Robert Pattinson in The Batman
😺 Following in the footsteps (pawsteps?) of Michelle Pfieffer, Anne Hathaway, and Halle Berry (though she’d probably rather forget about it), Zoe Kravitz will take on the role of Catwoman in The Batman. She joins Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Jonah Hill in a still unspecified role.
Thank you for subscribing! Practice self-love this week. Because if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else. Can I get an amen up in here?
See you tomorrow! 🧶
