🌂 Happy Tuesday!
This week, we’re talking about movies that will get you in the Halloween spirit and nothing is quite as festive as a haunted house.
Okay, here’s day 2️⃣.
Today’s movie: Hell House LLC
STREAMING ON PRIME VIDEO
What it’s about: Five friends get together to put on a Halloween haunted house in an abandoned hotel in upstate New York. Years later, a documentary crew pieces together the footage they left behind to uncover exactly what happened to them.
Why it’s great: I’ve described Hell House LLC as the scariest bad movie I’ve ever seen. The dialogue is clunky, the characters are non-existent, and the story is serviceable but barely there. Still, director Stephen Cognetti knows how to scare the crap out of you. From slow-building tension to terrifically executed jump scares, there’s rarely a moment that you can rest easy. You might have trouble sleeping after this one.

Fun fact:
After filming a particularly scary scene, one of the actors ran out of the room and threw up. The clip ended up in the movie and is completely real.

In movie news: The John Wick universe is getting a little bigger
💃 The John Wick series is the rare franchise to make more money with each installment. So, it’s unsurprising that a female-led spinoff movie entitled Ballerina is in the works. Directing will be Len Wiseman — best known for his work on the Underworld franchise.
My take: More interesting than John Wick himself is the world he inhabits, which is why I’m really excited to explore more of it. That being said, it would have been great to have a female director tackle the project, especially since few women are given the chance to work on a massive franchise.
