🐪 Happy Wednesday!
Like I said in my intro for this week’s theme, not all ghost stories have to be scary. So, today’s recommendation is a cosmic adventure through space and time — and appropriately titled for the theme.
Okay, here’s day 3️⃣.
Today’s movie: A Ghost Story
STREAMING ON AMAZON PRIME
What it’s about: After a freak accident, a newly deceased ghost (Casey Affleck) — portrayed here as a figure covered by the classic white sheet with two eye holes cut out — watches as time, space, and his loved ones (Rooney Mara) march past him.
Why it’s great: Falling into the non-horror genre of ghost movies, A Ghost Story is more like a cosmic adventure through time that just happens to be from the point of view of a ghost. Ironically, though, the movie is more concerned with life than it is death.
It asks, what makes people do the things we do? Why do we feel with permanence when everything is so temporary? It’s a movie grounded in an existential crisis. But in that crisis is hope. It's oddly comforting. Plus, Rooney Mara eats a pie in an uninterrupted five-minute shot. If that’s not reason enough to watch it, I don’t know what is.

Fun fact:
The infamous pie scene was done in one take. Rooney Mara said it was vegan chocolate flavored and tasted terrible.

🥃 Guy Ritchie’s follow-up to his live-action Aladdin movie for Disney is an action-comedy set in London. The movie starts *takes deep breath* Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant. That’s quite the cast. Here’s the trailer:
