🎃 Happy Tuesday and welcome to October!
Because it’s such a special day, I’m sharing one of my favorite ghost movies of the decade. And I have to warn you, this one is terrifying.
Before we get started, if you like what I’m doing here, it’d mean the world to me if you’d share it on Twitter or tell a movie lover friend about it. ❤️
Okay, here’s day 2️⃣.
Today’s movie: Hereditary
STREAMING ON AMAZON PRIME
What it’s about: After Annie’s (Toni Collette) mother passes away, she and her family (Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro) start experiencing unexplainable occurrences. Eventually, she uncovers dark secrets from her family’s past that put them all in danger.
Why it’s great: When horror is done right, terrifying, heart-stopping horror, it grabs every one of your senses and makes you hyper-aware of all of them. It lays in wait, biding its time and revealing just enough throughout until the story comes crashing together at the end. It has a grounding in something real and human so that the horror feels even more imminent. Considering that definition, it’s not an exaggeration to say that Hereditary is horror done perfectly. It has the oppressive dark energy of The Conjuring, the patient enigmatic storytelling of The Witch, the emotional heft of The Babadook, and the horrifying visceral imagery of The Shining. It’s a horror fan’s dream.

Fun fact:
The trailer for
Hereditary
was accidentally played before a screening of the family film
Peter Rabbit
, causing a mini-panic as parents rushed their kids out of the theater. I can’t think of anything more
Hereditary
than that.
Don’t have Prime Video? Hereditary is available to buy or rent on Prime Video, iTunes, and YouTube.
In movie news: Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie has a trailer
🏹 A trailer for DC’s highly anticipated Harley Quinn movie Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) was released today. In it, we find Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) teaming up with Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to protect a young girl (Ella Jay Basco) from a crime lord named Black Mask (Ewan McGregor)
My take: Suicide Squad is truly one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in a theater. However, this trailer is incredibly well-edited. Robbie looks like she’s going for it and with Cathy Yan, an exciting new director, at the helm, I’m cautiously optimistic. But maybe I’m just going mad.
That’s all for today! Have a great (and spooky) October night!
See you tomorrow! 🌇
